ive been told im too cynical, though in my experiance it stops you setting you'reself up for a fall when everything goes tits up

I think there is there are too many different motives behind cynicism out there today:

There is the Misogynyst-type where you are cynical because everything seems pointless from the start anyway

Dr.House sort of way, where you are cynical under the hope that your cynicism pays off because when everything goes tits up it is interesting, and most you are one of the few who can focus in that type of situation. (at least in contrast to others)

Ogden Wernstrom sort of way, where you are just trying to be cynical to prove a point.
