duh, I took a course in ethics in college too, but it's something you have to choose. you can't just be taught about it and magically become ethical

I've taken two ethics course. One general education psychology course. One specific to my major.

Still, you're wrong about thinking I don't think there should be "hacking" courses.

No, but an ethics course should be a prerequisite to any security/hacking course.

I know some of the major business universities in Canada require their students to take an ethics course. Which they do. And pass. And then carry on as if ethics didn't exist.

You teach students what ethics are, but you can't teach them to be ethical. That would require conditioning, probably using techniques themselves would be considered unethical.

The point of an ethics class is to provide an overview of "best practices". It's still up to each individual to decide how they behave in the big bad world. :-)

I think hacking should be taught. In all honesty. If the ability to find vulnerabilities is not taught then the only way these things will become known is from the script kiddies DDoSing, hacking, what have you at will. Being taught to search for vulnerabilities saves time and alot of headaches in the long run where things are "prepatched" against abuse.

Its still an ethical question whether you use it for misdeeds or not.
