Surprise surprise, goldrush

For someone that's not directly involved in the "league" you spend a lot of time talking about it.
And to say that those of us here don't organize anything is to not realize the type players we have here. I can't speak specifics for them, but I'm a former leader of an ET clan that participated in a number of leagues (e.g. OGL in its prime) and suspect that many others here have similar experiences. This experience tells me that it's extremely easy to setup a 'semi-informal' match, and any difficulties you experienced are entirely your own problem.
You're right though, you're not the admin, nor should you be. You and Trends both seemed to find copying a roster to the forums a magical difficulty, and both failed to do so in a manner that was the least bit mature. A simple 'no, I'll need you to sign up on the forums yourself since we're discussing schedules there' would have sufficed. Or, the less lazy 'sure, but be sure to sign up anyway because...' would have went a long way.
In any case I think we can all agree to never go to the goldrushers forums, for it is a silly place.

hey guys whats going on in this thread

I think we can all agree you guys don't like anybody who plays Goldrush for some stupid reason which is why we created our own forum. I don't think anybody has any interest in bridging that gap at this point. If you guys think our league is stupid, well, big fucking surprise there it's just us n00b Goldrush players, big fucking spamfest and nothing but demo's.

We enjoy it, thats what matters. If you don't want to play in our league, or be a part of the community surrounding that league thats fine. No skin off our backs, we'll be having great time without you guys just like always.

TheDoop,

Your post clearly reflects that you don't have a clue what is going but yet you have seen the need to comment (foot in mouth disease or a "snarfism"). I will gladly clear up all misinformation.

Quote:For someone that's not directly involved in the "league" you spend a lot of time talking about it.

Why thats because I host the matches. So I am involved, I am just not the league admin. Reading previous posts will help you put together my involvement in the league. Answering questions like this over and over again is PRECISELY reason for a forum. Now, instead of messaging you and all the other people of my involvement (in Steam) with a "cut and paste," I can just point out your ignorance with one simple post. This saves me a ton of time.

Quote:And to say that those of us here don't organize anything is to not realize the type players we have here. Participated being a key word here. I have partcipated and hosted now. I can tell you that its far, far, far, far easier to participate. Leading a clan doesn't take much effort, it is most certainly not to be compared with hosting a league even a semi-informal one. I am not going to labor this point because you don't know what you are talking about. Just know that you can always add me when you decide to organize a league and realize that it is work.

One other thing I would like to point out, there are previous posts that speak of a possible tournament which was to take place between then server regulars. It didn't and hasn't happened. I have no doubt in my mind that the organizers realized that its not easy to get everyone to agree to rules, organize a team, be responsible for communication between the teams, get a server running smoothly, and setup for the match. I am telling you its A LOT more then just one copy and pasting of the roster.

Quote:This experience tells me that it's extremely easy to setup a 'semi-informal' match, and any difficulties you experienced are entirely your own problem.

It's not one match BUT A LEAGUE. This person will have to communicate roster, roster changes, dates, times, and any type of additional requests for the match AND FUTURE MATCHES. The cutting and the pasting is easy enough but then Trends would have to hear back from the team admin and get a hold of sk8 again on ALL information/issues/problems (time, date, roster issues, problems with the rules, etc.). It is SO MUCH easier to remove the middle man on simple communication matters and have him (Trends) reserved for real problems that arise.

Lets recap: Multiple teams, multiple matches, a league. Not just copying and pasting one item.

Quote:You're right though, you're not the admin, nor should you be. You and Trends both seemed to find copying a roster to the forums a magical difficulty, and both failed to do so in a manner that was the least bit mature.

Once again, speaking from ignorance, I am the host. The forums are hosted by me. I have to deal with specific complaints and questions as well. You really shouldn't comment until you get all the facts straight. You need communication (more then just the rosters!) and you need some rules even in a semi-informal league or you end up with chaos and people not wanting to participate after the first match. You think signing up for forums is hard try putting two teams together for a match with no rules and a lack of communication!!!

There's the team that took your place this Saturday. We'll be having a lot of fun with the two organized matches we have planned for Friday and Saturday.

Ol' Wolf: http://www.thegamingfix.com/forums/viewt...f=26&t=172
[GÐ] Trends in Soviet Physics ☭: Awesome, thanks
[GÐ] Trends in Soviet Physics ☭: Out of curiosity, was that a days-long hellish experience? Posting that?
Ol' Wolf: not at all

It's interesting that he's able to copy and paste his chat into a forum post, but is unable to copy and paste a roster.

This.

Just to future squash the idiocy of "but it is only one cut and paste." Here is a list of rules that I had to develop after the last informal match I hosted. Most of these rules are common sense but they were all ISSUES BROUGHT UP by the two teams. Communicating all this crap on a consistent basis is exausting. It is also on going as their is new crap to communicate. It's nice to know that people are responsible for their teams and can work out as much information as possible on their own. They after all want to be apart of the league, right? In ironic fashion, I have cut and pasted these for you.

- The rules -

Preapproval

• Two players may be submitted for a match but those two must agree to be the captains of the perspective teams.
• The two captains must ensure that both teams are adequately informed of times, connection information, and additional information posted in the forums.
• Administrators are available but will only communicate with a team admin when necessary. The administrators should not be bothered with providing information for participating members of the two teams.
• Team leaders must agree with match rules prior to going forward with a match. All agreed upon rules will be set in stone going forward. NO CHANGES will be made.

• Standard rules included:
• A melee battle between the captains preceding the match to decide which team gets to pick offense or defense starting the match. The class and equipment used must be the same and agreed upon prior to the match. If one team captain deviates from the agreed upon equipment then they forfeit the choice to the opposing team. All additional team members must remain in spectator mode for the battle and join their correct side after the battle.
• Tournament mode will be enabled to ensure the team that pushes the cart in the fastest time will be the winner.
• The match can either be a one round or three round event. This is to be agreed upon prior to the match by both captains. No more than three rounds will be allowed for each event.
• The event can include a viewing option (for spectators) but this must be agreed upon by both team captains.
• The number of players on each team must be agreed upon prior to the match

Match Prep
• Teams members and substitutes must be worked out at least one week prior to the event. There will be no unknown substitutes for the match.
• Any person previously banned from the servers will not be allowed to participate in match events. No exceptions!
• If the teams go with a viewing option for the match and desire commentators then that/those person/s must be agreed upon at least one week prior to the event. The administrators will not constantly remind the teams of these deadlines. The team captains are expected to keep up on these deadlines.
• Any team member with bans on record will only be allowed to participate if the opposing teams captain agrees with their participation. After the rosters are set (one week prior to the match) a team will not be allowed to request a removal of a team member.

Match
• All participants must show up at least 15 minutes prior to the event. If a person is not on time then a substitute will be expected to take his/her place. If the team does not have any substitutes they will be allowed to play the match with less players or forfeit the match. In short, it will be the team leaders responsibility to get all players in on time because the match will start on time.
• Players on the roster may be allowed to connect after the match has started. Players not listed on the roster may not join in on the match.
• If a player's game pauses or freezes then the match may be paused for two minutes for the game in order to allow the player back into the game. If the player is not back in the allotted time then the match will resume and the player can rejoin upon reconnection. If the player is unable to come back the a substitute will enter the game. Each team will be allowed three pauses for the match after those are used up then the match will continue uninterrupted regardless of disconnects/reconnects.
• Participating members must conduct themselves in an orderly manner this includes refraining from text spamming, name calling, abusive remarks toward the admins, or mic spamming. Anyone violating these rules will be removed from the match and a substitute will take their place. If the team has no substitutes then they can continue with less players. If three people from a team violates the rules then that team will forfeit the match.
• Any team member caught cheating will be removed from the match. A substitute will take their place. If the team has no substitutes then they can continue with less players. If three people from a team violates the rules then that team will forfeit the match.
• An administrator must be present during the whole match.

All of these rules must be complied with to ensure a hard fought match with good sportsmanship. Rules are subject to change.

Three things
1. Learn to read, starting with names.
2. You talk too much.
3. If you (or Trends) is finding making and maintaining a league too difficult, you're doing it wrong. Set the team limits (e.g. 4), get the rosters, put a post on your magic forum with the rules and give it out to the team leaders, roll some dice and decide what teams are paired up, talk to the team leaders and say 'hay guys, you need to have your match this week, talk to your teams then each other to find the best time. Match will be scheduled at XX:XX on Xday if you can't reach a better time', change time as appropriate, see who wins, repeat for the next round. When I say participated, I do mean participated as a team leader working with other team leaders. I never talked to a league admin, or server host to get things going. We set our own times and just reported the results back to the league (in the case of OGL).

TheDopp,

Its all good. You run your league how you want to. Trends wants to the run the league in a way that he thinks is best.
#89

I think everyone arguing against Sdogg doesn't really get the point. It's not about how hard/easy it is to copy-paste the roster, its about being professional and being able to follow simple rules set out by the the league organizer.

I mean, if you don't want to follow the rules, you don't get to play.

sdogg2m Wrote:TheDoop,

Team one has just disagreed with one of the rules?

What do you do then?
Tell them to have a nice day and continue taking applications. League rules are the leagues rules.
Just like I think your last two rules are stupid. A team with a cheater should be disqualified immediately, and an admin shouldn't be needed to be there - just two demos (one from each team) submitted with the results by each team on the forums/website/whatever. Because I think those rules are stupid, you shouldn't change them if you think they're valid, thus I won't play.
