Ping limit request on Arena server.
#1

I've been playing pretty regularly for the past month or so in this server and I've noticed that there is serious issue with players joining late night games with 300-600 ping constantly. They warp all over the place and even when votekicked they still just keep flooding the server and most of them don't even speak english. This is the only server that I consider myself to be a regular in where there isn't a ping limit of 250~ish.

It would be quite awesome if there was a ping limit around there, especially with the new stats update etc. It's rather annoying trying to hit someone who's warping constantly. On top of that and we keep getting idiots with insane pings that just won't stay gone who spam the mic with over 500 pings. (happened three times in the past 2 days..)

Thanks

I'll agree with Sir_Light on this one. It's annoying having such players on both your team and the opposing team. It either makes them hard to heal, or hard to shoot!

I have admitted to using my ping to cheat as a sniper and nothing was done (intentionally seeding torrents while playing to get my ping to about 800).

I don't think that DF cares about ping.

I care about people jumping around that are hard to hit, but the value of the ping itself isn't what concerns me. Plenty of people can maintain a 250 ping without jumping around.

You heard it here, Fire up your µTorrent, the lag-sniper-shitfest has begun!

The problem is, there are plenty of people who have 200+ ping and DO jump around.

I just got done playing with a medic who was invincible to backstabs and snipers. Damn near impossible to kill with anything but demo/soldier/sneak attack heavy. This might not be a huge problem in CP or PL, but in arena... it's a form of godmode.

If there isn't a way to determine who will teleport around, I am all in favor of limiting players to 150 or 200 ping. Better to get rid of people who may cause problems and have a few innocent victims than to let select people "cheat."

If pings didn't matter there wouldn't be any in the first place. There's clear-cut reasons as to why there are filters and the option to put a ping limit on servers. Anyone who's played fps long enough knows that 250+ ping is unacceptable no excuses. Anyone who's played fps competitively knows that you order servers near you because of ping... High pings = warping/lagging, it's just that simple. No reason there shouldn't be a 250 limit, some servers have 150-200. Competitive servers have ~120...

All this talk about ways to improve the servers etc and yet this one is transparently clear. Try playing at 1-7 am est and you'll see plenty of people ruining the fun for others because of it.

I really don't see any reason to support not having a ping limit, unless you enjoy the non-english speaking players or those who intentionally warp to benefit their play.

Throw up a vote; you'll see that your regulars and pretty much the top 20-30 players that join your server on a daily basis would agree with me, the majority of them are on my friends list. -_-

I take the opposite view (and so do most justice systems). I'm not saying I'm not going to do anything about it, but a ping limit isn't the best solution. I will look into detecting those with high packet loss or something and kicking them instead of a ping kicker.

So why not at least add a 300 limit? The thing is.. I don't ever see -any- admins on this server and it takes literally 30+ minutes of getting everyone to kick a warper that stays gone.

Who maintains a 250 ping okay on -this- particular server that plays regularly? If you have that kind of a ping you're definitely not in North America to begin with.

It's not about "justice" it's about maintaining a fair playing field for those that are on your server regularly. This is a game, one of which should be kept to make things fun and entertaining for all. When people warp around on a regular basis and nothing is done about it.. it only frustrates those who are a part of the community and involved with the regulars here. =(

300 seems reasonable. I'll try it for tonight.
