Hey guys
My dell studio laptop (stupid plastic piece of trash!) finally bit the dust, as the main cooling fan has completely died, and the thing overheats extremely quickly even on power saver mode, rendering it pretty much useless.
I've been looking at these laptops by lenovo for a while, and I'm really digging them because of their low price and really good specs, especially for laptops.

What say you guys? A desktop is out of the question, I don't really have dorm space for it. Price range for me is up to $800, but I would like to spend less.[/url]

If your going to use it for gaming I would go for the lenovo IdeaPad Y560 (0646-5LU). The specs are good for that price and it will be able to run most good games. If your just going to use it for leisure (eg. work) then go with the lenovo IdeaPad Z560 (0914-4GU). It will be able to do anything work-related and also play some games on medium settings.

lenovo IdeaPad Z560 (0914-4GU) or lenovo IdeaPad Y560 (0646-5LU)

someone told me that if I didn't opt for the Y560 (0646-5LU) I'd be sacrificing a lot in terms of connection speeds. Anyone know how that would affect me?

also, what is the different between the i3 and the i5 processor? I understand that 2.93GHz is a much higher frequency than 2.53GHz, but what do those numbers mean, and what is a real-world example of that speed difference?

at this point going for somethign that isnt the best means that you're going to be buying a computer in 3 years rather than 5

Those numbers mean the speeds at which your cpu will compute. The higher the number, the faster and better your computer is. Also I would go for i5, since it has 4 cores yet i3 only has 2.

Hey all--
I've narrowed it down to these two laptops:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115987
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146986

things i'm confused about and would pay metal to have answered:
is acer as reliable as lenovo in terms of customer service, laptop durability, etc?
is the graphics card on the lenovo 1GB or 512MB? on newegg it says it's 1GB, but on an independent website reviewing the nvidia geforce 310m it's described as a 512MB card.
Is the acer worth the extra 50 bucks? It seems to have a much more powerful GPU, and a gigabit ethernet card, but i don't know whether those pros are worth it.
Also, I've read great things about lenovo's thinkpad series, but not-so-great things about their ideapad series. any warrant to these claims?

much appreciated, and as i said, if you're really helpful, i don't need my 37 some-odd refineds Big Grin

You don't want to try and run a game on a 310, and acers are garbage.
