DF if you really want to give people weapons, the only way you'll be able to do it without ruining shit is to have the new weapons differ in name only
for example the balisong could be renamed "Womb Raider's Prison Shank"
no new attributes, just a name change.
that way you could still do something special for the people you think deserve it, but not break the game balance in the process

Well Valve started giving out real community weapons. All they do special is sparkle. If I gave a few people sparkling weapons, would that be acceptable?

You should give people x # of weapons per y dollars donated so they can get more shiny weapons to show off as long as they don't differ in stats. Or just one, whatever you want.
I'm sure you can ask 1time for conformation, but just having a visible cosmetic thing that says "I donated" is one way to get people to donate.

Can you give out medals that have their own "stats"? By "stats", I mean just words you can enter yourself.

Can you make that medal sparkle?
If not, I suppose you could do the whole sparkling weapon thing. Personally though, I think it'd be much more memorable to have something 'special' or 'unique' to the person that has it.

I don't really know the scope of what you can do .. so .. /shrug

I think it is a good idea to give good members of SourceOP sparkly weapons. Not anything that gives a big damage bonus as that can empty servers.
