ibby Wrote:Really glad to see all this support and all sorts of ideas to help better the servers. Warms my cold Canadian Heart! Fantastic initiative and I can't wait to start seeing this stuff being implemented.

We'll start off with figuring out new maps for now. What do you guys suggest?

We could try and start out with a top 5 and then add some more to the rotation if there is sufficient demand!

Ohhhh also, suggestions as to what to remove!

Use the following format please:

Ibby

Add:

1. Swiftwater
2. Snakewater
3. Process
4. Follower
5. Croissant

Remove:

1. Hoodoo
2. Junction
3. Hydro

Replace:

1. Turbine with turbine_pro
2. Viaduct with viaduct_pro
3. Coldfront with warmfront

The problem is that the server needs a lot more than just a Rotation change. Majority of these issues were brought up last time there was a thread about server issues and we settled with just getting few maps removed from the rotation. Nothing was done to fix the map voting, letting people nominate maps, and rockthevote (similar to what SourceMod has). Win conditions on maps need to be altered as well. For instance PL map should be changed once each team has played a round on Offense/Defense.

As for the donations, they can definitely be revived if perks like reserve slots (a VERY limited number), different chat color, godmode for round ends is added for active donators.

Other fun stuff like a Duel plugin, and team-kill minigame on map starts should also be looked into.

Youre just reiterating what everyone else has already mentioned? I never disagreed. As I said, we can start off with adding and removing maps.

This thread is full of ideas, everyone with their own personal idea of how to fix the server. Adding and removing maps seems like the most agreed upon problem, and since a change like that will be the most apparent, I think we should start off with that, and then immediately move on to everything else (Donator system, funky plugins, rock the vote, etc.). Its also somewhat easier.

Getting everything done at once will take longer as well. I can try and get the maps added by the end of this week even perhaps.

Not to speak for Fusion but I believe the point he's making is we've had these threads before (three examples in Game's post) and each of the threads was the same message - we need a lot of changes. And then only one change would come out of a thread, everyone would cheer and the matter was dropped. At least until someone went 'Wait, there was more than just the one thing that got done that needed to be done...' and at which point they decide to make a new thread.

Saying 'oh, the rotation is the best place to start' is wrong. We've done that. That was the outcome of one of those three threads. The fact that a rotation update might be able to happen by the end of the week on one of the servers isn't a solution to the issue this thread is discussing. The maps are not the sole issue. Having new admins on 2fort, PH and Valve1 is not the issue. Not being able to RTV is not the issue. Having empty servers that could be full if their gamemode/theme was changed is not the issue. Fixing one of those things does not fix the community. Having the ability to fix all the things (major to minor), as they come up, in a timely and dynamic fashion is the issue.

It's good input to know the rotation change proposals, new maps, etc for Valve1 and PH (though PH has an active proposal out there for the rotation update already). There's a thread Womb started to track that. This thread isn't about deciding 'Oh, well the rotation on Valve1 is the best place to start' and then focusing on what maps are needed. We have regulars across the three active servers posting in this thread. This is a SourceOP community discussion, not a valve1 discussion.

Again, don't want to speak for Fusion or anyone else though.

2fort does not need yet another admin, just saying.

I totally disagree with sloted player with invicibility at the end! We are suppose to dont do prisoner, otherwise those player will become slave!

I will look for maps, trying to find good and well appreciated on others servers.

Darn.

Just throwing my name in here.

In my opinion, a one-time map rotation change is not a solution to the dying server population.

What we need is an admin who:
That's really all that's needed to keep the server filled for longer.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

I don't think we can enact any plans that will benefit all servers and convince gamers a priori that it's "safe" to come back. That's why I believe that first and foremost admins should be posted and changes introduced gradually, as guests and not permanent features. Testing should occur live (and I think players would like to participate in this kind of thing as they themselves make it happen) and each admin should dutifully respect the communities' wishes if they are also for their own benefit in the long run.

Some notes I'd like to run by: people want to get rid of 2fort altogether. I'm against this. Way back when, I started my TF2 days in a 2fort server before moving to SourceOP. I, as I suspect many others have, found the map to be the most inviting for trial and error and the most welcoming of different styles to be used by the 9 classes as determined by new players. It isn't as daunting as other maps. It is, as well, a place to simply hang out and pass the time without being the insufferable expert/king of the server. And it is very much active when compared to Valve1.

I have no idea why Goldrush 24/7 died. I remember a jamaican clan keeping that payload moving like the energizer bunny. I think, of the ideas proposed by my betters in this thread, that Goldrush 24/7 should become a general, rotating payload map 24/7. I know Lotus does this (by also limiting how much time and rounds it requires to win) and it works great for them. Though it's pretty much badwater.

Like I said (well, repeated what Dopp said), ultimately, the community should adopt any changes dynamically and I can't think of a better way than give more powers, if temporarily, to community leaders like a certain NZer already mentioned. But I think Valve2 shouldn't become, again, second place for those unable to enter Valve1. We simply don't have the players. The two servers should be recognizably different from each other, with server 2 being the more experimental one, I think.

And prop hunt, I dunno, I don't believe I'm stoned enough to offer an opinion about it.
