Tim curry had a lot of fucking fun with the role as a clown. He was about the only enjoyable part of the movie just because he was so over the top.

That used to scare the heck out of me. Oh and also dummies. And dolls. Like Child's Play and Night of the Living Dummy from Goosebumps.
