one minor problem with your calculations... textmode idling isn't going to come close to the same power consumption as idling with the renderer going.

It still renders everything or it wouldn't consume your video memory while it was running.

Why do you think that it helps it to go into Direct X 8 mode?

wtf are you serious? why would they do that? sorry, I'm not an idler so really have no clue. it would make sense to me to not even use the video card in text mode.
