Welcome to the SourceOp Team-Tourney Season 1 Thread
(We are currently putting this project on the backburner until the SourceOp Official Tournament has finalized, which will give us a good indication of the ability of the sourceop server population to sustain a tournament environment)

SourceOp Team Tourney Season 1 FAQ

NOTE: The contents of this post will remain relatively unmodified until the SourceOp Official Tournament has concluded. However, the sponsors are still very curious about the interest levels of regular members in such a tournament. Please, if this interests you, get in contact with a member of H2O or pHd

Q: Who can compete in this tourney?
A: Anyone and everyone who plays on any SourceOp server is able to participate.

Q: Do I need to be in a clan to participate?
A: No, in fact, we need more UNCLANNED members to help fill out mostly clan-based teams, and also to compete in teams comprised entirely of unclanned members.

Q: How does team formation work?
A: Every team will need to have at least 6 players, eventually. In the future, there will likely be hard-and-fast class restrictions on final tourney play. For now, we are just guaging interest, so don't sweat it.

Q: Can I sign up as an individual without a team?
A: Absolutely! In fact, team rules haven't even been finalized. We believe a majority of teams will form from individual members - a great way to meet players from other servers!

Q: This sounds super serious, is it?
A: UBER SERIOUZ! But no, we are just trying to play TF2 in different way, a way that we feel is exciting, fast pace, and downright fun. And we think you might feel that way, too, after giving it a shot. You really have nothing to lose.

Q: This is confusing, who can I talk to who will clear this up?
A: Please send either me of getthere1time a message over SourceOp forums or through Steam so we can better assist you.

For the last month or so I've noticed a large shift in my latency on both sourceop valve map servers. While I start at my usual 60-80 range, it seems to randomly pop upwards of 300+ then slowly climb back down. All other sourceop or tf2 servers for that matter that I pop on never seem to have these issues.

Just curious if there is something that changed that I don't know about.

Taking a step back and reading everyone's posts about these tournaments has led me to believe that people want one of two separate types of games. I think there's no reason we can't have both types of tournaments.


Tournament #1: Call it "SourceOp TF2 Team Ladder Season 1." Teams are 6v6 or 7v7, Only 1 demo allowed, 1 medic allowed, and 2 max every other class. Team rosters are not clan or server dependent but must be set at start of season.

Tournament #2: Call it "SourceOp TF2 Server Games Number One." Teams are comprised of the "all-stars" of each class from that server. Every player signs up for a server at the start of registration, dependent on time spent on server. Players are placed into a ballot (each player can choose 2 classes to be entered into) and server members vote for the "best" player. for each class. Then the servers compete in best of 3 or best of 5 games.



What do you guys think of doing it that way?

Figured I'd start the thread cuz I have no life and can update this at any time. If you have any corrections or opinions to add, I'll change it as you reply. I'm going to be very blunt about who I think is the best team and I hope I don't offend anyone. Just kidding I don't care GTH. It seems like people are leaning toward Highlander (awesome) and I would like the very best team representing us. Smile

Actually only seen Feanor and Krylon play at the same time once so it's hard to judge, but I thought I saw Feanor playing better at least that one time. Either would obviously destroy. Mr. Boo and Half_Duplex both destroy but, likewise, I've only seen them play together once. Thought Boo edged him out or maybe Duplex wasn't high at the time, who knows. I don't know about crow vs schwarz but I know Crow is something to be feared as a tiny scout. Heavy is a hard class to judge as it's hit or miss depending on if you have a medic and your competition. Jumpinthefire is number 1 now and he plays a ton of heavy. Engie is another tough one since I don't pay attention to them often. I believe I have seen `yay and Adder at the top of the score board as engie before so IDK. Goose, I believe, is the most consistently amazing sniper I've seen, while others have there good and bad days. I recently faced Spork and he was amazing, but haven't played enough with him to really compare him as a sniper. Flyz the best at w+m1. Big Chief seems like the obvious choice for spy but he's doesn't play too much anymore. No other names really pop out as being an amazing spy though. I think most of us can play a damn good medic, but I've seen Whitefox beat out me and President Logan in points and overall medic ability.

I do a lot of comparing while playing and this is just my opinion on what I've seen on the server when I see the best players playing each other. Don't know if Mr. Crow, JumpInTheFire, 'yay, or Flyz know about or want to participate in the tourney though. Now I assume there will be a method of letting everyone play that wishes to play which is fine (I wanna play too) but I think there should be a method of having the best a server has to offer compete with each other (I would love to watch this actually)AND eventually have everyone be able to play, but I'm sure that will be figured out in the other thread. This is about team composition... discuss!

I was playing on arena and I was like "Hi Guys, I sure love to play on this arena server without being votekicked for no reason" so they were like "I VOTKIK U" and I was like "NO, GUYS, NO" so I changed my name and they votekicked my freind a bunch of times (because I changed my name to his) and then they started votekicking people just so their team would win (votekick the opponents on arena, very mature)

Needless to say, I was mortified.

any remedy for this?

oh yeah, their names were JohnTheif, Hiro Protagonist; and something like supermarshmallow.

I have an FTP now that gives me access of everything up to the hl2mp folder (half life 2 deathmatch)

I've noticed it places the .dll and several other files in the Srcds folder instead of the Hl2mp folder inside of the SRCDS folder, a annoying problem for me, so how would I get it to work in Hl2mp because the FTP doesn't allow me to go into the SRCDS folder?
