Redneck Wrote:I used to believe that too, but we had a discussion on another forum recently and found that isn't really the case; the price difference when you compare 1:1 hardware prices and the cost of an OS is negligible.

HAHAHAH. NO. I am going to have to prove this one wrong immediately.

$2,700$ imac includes:
3ghz core2duo (of undisclosed architecture)
4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
8x SUPERDRIVE (holy christ they like to make things up)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS(GS?) NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS
1.3 megapixel web-camera
apple speakers
24 inch monitor
mouse
keyboard

Now lets build our own!

3ghz core2duo: 80$ plus a 40$ heatsink will give you a 4 ghz

4gb of 800mhz ram is also old. 4gb of 1066 is 100$

1tb hard drive? NO, we buy 2 640's: 150$

Some random video card that I can barely find on google? we'll be generous and call it a top of the line 8800: 200$

a better webcam than theirs is 30$

a better monitor than theirs is 300$

turns out a SUPERDRIVE is an 8x dvd burner. 10$

Vista ultimate for System builders is 130$, but it is going to be outdated in a year, so get yourself the 240-day trial of server 08 for FREE!

Super cool case is 100$

Awesome motherboard is 200$

mouse is 40$

keyboard is 50$

1300$ in total for a way better computer that you can upgrade incrementally as you need to, which (done intelligently) will save you a shit load in the long run.

Redneck Wrote:But who innovated first? Apple. Have you tried a new Touch? Those things are amazing.

Compaq made the first "iPod" device, which was a digital media player with a 4.5 gb hard drive. Apple didn't have their iPod out until 2001.

They do streamline innovations, but they do not create them.

Yes, I have tried an iPod touch, my 2gb Phillips took a shit so I borrowed that and let him use my PS3. It's not bad, but It is a 400$ 32gb MP3 player. You can get a Zune and DS with 4 times the storage for less than that and do everything it does better.

Redneck Wrote:But it has 802.11 built in; I set it up for my clients to use at the office, and they use it similarly to a Blackberry in the corporate world, getting email and such.

you have me there, I haven't looked any iPhone but the first gen.
