I have had plenty of instances where I was at 900+ items and wasn't able to buy things that I wanted. Instead of buying them anyway and whining when the items that didn't fit got deleted I just didn't buy the stuff.

That's horrible..
I'd contact valve ASAP and try to get the issue resolve,
state that it was merely an accident and that you did not know you were running low on backpack space.

It is partly his fault and valves fault... He should have deleted the items when said to, but valve shouldnt be so stingy as to delete them.

i had the same problem as u, lost MUCH much more, seriously, 19 ref isnt that bad. I forgot my bp limit and didnt use my bp expander and i closed tf2 since i freaked out and stuff. Lost them, but supported return the items a few days later

When i was F2P (i wasnt for long) i got a bunch of items which added to well over the 50 item allowance and deleting items was such a pain just because i was so fond of everything for some weird reason. Once i got into trading i figured how cheap weapons actually were xD, but i have never had TF2 just delete em..
