Tech help: Sleep mode a no-go
#1

My six year old son got a bit carried away in his gaming and as such, wrecked my mouse pulling it out of the computer in the process. Luckily, I had an old mouse that I plugged into the computer and it still worked. Stupid me, I plugged in the old mouse while the computer was still on.

Problem now is my computer will no longer enter sleep mode. Hitting the snooze button shuts the monitor down, but not the CPU itself. If anything, the hard drive starts spinning and I can't even turn the computer off with the power button. I have to unplug the machine, wait 30 seconds and the plug it back in.

I checked through the power options but other then adjusting the multimedia setting to 'allow the computer to sleep' all else is the same. I can't tell if this is a Vista issue or an ACER hardware issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds more like a vista problem. To confirm get a different mouse or remove the mouse all together while computer is off. Turn it on and try entering sleep mode. (if no mouse do it with with keyboard controls such as windows key, tab to give focus to proper window/buttons, arrows to select buttons and space or enter to push buttons selected) If its still acting up its not the mouse (which I highly doubt it is anyway)
