Sitting out and AllTalk
#1

First I would like to say what a great community this is, and your servers are excellent to play on. I have been playing on the TF2 [ARENA MAPS][NO MODS] server for quite a while now and was wondering if there has ever been any talk over changing some things on it.

The first is sitting out of rounds. Most of the regular players that I talk to on the server aren't too keen on sitting out of rounds, especially when you see people that are AFK sitting in spawns rooms while you just get to spectate. Another reason for this is at the end of maps if you are sitting out, so one gets to see your final score (for bragging rights, obviously). We think getting rid of sitting out and either making the maximum amount of players 22 or 24 would make people a lot less frustrated.

The second is AllTalk. Again, after talking to a lot of the regulars who I am friends with, we think it would be a good idea for AllTalk to be on at the end of rounds and after you die. That way, people from the other teams can talk and make bets if its down to a 1v1. I think it would also be a good way to get people to just talk more, as there are times on the server when no one uses a mic but one person. AllChat is already on after death (and even during) so I don't think the impact on gameplay would change.

These are just suggestions so please don't think I'm barging in here making demands, these are just some ideas a lot of the players agree on.

Thanks for reading.

I personally hate area mod because you have to sit out. If you didn't have to sit out, I'd play it a whole lot more.

These are good ideas. People only have to sit out to keep teams even (and also when there are more than 11v11). I'm willing to change it to allow 12v12. The only reason I haven't yet is because it's a limitation that can only be overcome by mods/plugins and I haven't set that up yet. Is having people sit out to keep teams even bad?

The only problem with all talk after death is that it might confuse people and then they might assume all talk is always on.

Drunken_F00l, having people sit out to keep the teams even isn't a bad idea, which is sort of the way it works now if their are an odd amount of players, but I think what most people do not like is having to out out when the full 24 people are in the server, and only having 11v11. 11v11 itself isn't bad, only the sitting out part. I find it odd that two people would have to sit out, since the teams would be even if they played. But like you said, I think this may be a Valve-issue which may have to be overcome by plugins or mods.

As for all-talk, I don't think it would be confusing at all. Most people realize that during a match the other team wouldn't be able to hear you since you are calling out spies or strategies. A lot of people expect all-talk to be on after matches or death and seem taken aback when they realize it isn't, at least that's what I have noticed.

I agree with Orcimrebu that the player limit should be bumped up to twenty-four. It makes more sense and, in my opinion, even numbered teams are nicer when you need to pair up players. I can understand having to sit out though to keep the teams from scrambling every three turns (rather then having both wins and loses), but I'm curious as to how it chooses who sits out. It seems the people with the highest scores sit out, but then sometimes it seems the ones who die the most do.

As for AllTalk, again I agree with Orcimrebu; it should be on when you're dead and after the round ends. If people are confused, well, they only need to make that mistake once. 8)

I am in full support of making it 12v12 instead of the current system that forces Strat and myself to sit out and watch 11v11 matches.

Sitting out to keep teams balanced is obviously okey-dokey. (It also lets me watch good players in first person so I can learn from them.)

As for alltalk after death and such, I could definitely see some people getting confused by this, however, I also see people getting confused when asked "what are you doing today?" Slap the alltalk rules in the MOTD and call it a day?
