BIOS won't recognize two of my drives. One is a Maxtor 500gb, other is Seagate 320gb. So naturally, I can't my OS to see it.
I fear these drives might have reached the end of their lives. Anybody know of an inexpensive way to save this data?

Pop the drives into an external drive enclosure and see if you can retrieve anything.

Already tried the enclosure. BIOS still won't recognize the drive. Windows recognizes the enclosure its in, but fails to see the drive after that point

All else fails stick it in a plastic bag in the freezer for a day or two, then try again with the linux boot cd.

this works sometimes.
also, larger drives seem to fail more often and faster than smaller ones. so snarf's suggestion fucking blows.
The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State.
