So, I was playing earlier (SourceOp.Com TF2 24/7 2fort [INSTANT RESPAWN], 67.228.59.146:27015, Fri night, July 17, say 9pm to about midnight PST, maybe later), and someone named 3|Gr1ngo says he is going to ban me if I don't stop using the Pyro water exploit (burning people in water when I have flamethrower above water surface).
If this is truly considered an exploit, I am really surprised. I think of exploits as things like floating the intel around (really annoying). If pyro fire in the water is officially considered an exploit by SourceOp I won't do it, but gosh I've had a reserved slot on this server for months (donated twice) and never before heard about this being an exploit or heard anyone complain about it. I've done it plenty (and been burned by others this way plenty, fine by me) just part of the game from my perspective. Some others on the server seemed suprised to hear it was an exploit, but a couple seemed to agree.
I mean there are obvious malicious exploits I've seen (floating intel), and malicious in-game behaviour exploiting "bugs" (clogging the inner spawn doors so they won't open, keeping players from leaving spawn area), but when I'm just out playing the game using the flamethrower the same way any pyro above the water surface can, this seems to in the realm of a very grey area to be considered an exploit and bannable behaviour. It would seem to be the kind of thing Valve would fix if it was not intentional. (Has anyone asked Valve if it is?)
It would be great if there was a list of essentially "normal gameplay" exploits on this site (all exploits perhaps, but I mean especially those someone can be innocently doing without realizing it is considered an exploit or frowned upon by SourceOp). What about flaming people through the bridge floor from under the bridge? I've seen peeps do that and so have tried it myself (fun!). 3|Gr1ngo was not sure if that was considered an exploit. I'd never seen/noticed him before. He said he'd never seen me before.
It would also be great if there was some on-screen indication that a player actually represents SourceOp.
Hope this was ok to post here. My first post, and lots of forums to choose from.
Thanks for the great server and great site.
