Nvidia Geforce gt340
#1

seeing as i game from a sucky ass laptop, i decided i was going to save up and buy a desktop. Browsing around, i found one that i liked, 'cept it had that graphics card. now, seeing as i know jack-shit about hardware specs, can anyone give me an idea of what i could potentially run if i had (amongs other things) this card?

You should be just fine on source games as I was able to run them with a card 3 generations earlier than that. however, I'm not one to crank the settings and fuck up my frame rate just so it looks a little prettier. Cool avatar.

Pretty much everything but there are better cards for that price. Granted I'm guessing this because I couldn't find a gt 340 on newegg...
It would be helpful if you gave us a budget. And if you are going to order a desktop that you want built for you I recommend ncix.com.(unless oza wants to step up and advertise his shop?)
Also Norrec I don't overclock unless I have a heatsink powerful enough to prevent an increase in temperature because my tower can run absolutely everything at max graphics at a smooth framerate.(this includes dx11)

see, i don't get half of that.
this is the "tower" i was thinking of buying as i found it at my local pc store for ~£500. Really, i just wanted something that could handle a fair amount of games while being open to customization when i finally get it together and begin sawpping out odds 'n' ends. My budget wasnt really set, but roughly £600 maximum ( roughly $974)

750 bucks for that? You could get a MUCH better build for that much.

http://pc.ncix.com/pcbuilder/index.php?a...ormid=1001 You can skimp on your processor and get an amd but it won't be as good as an intel, just make sure you get a quad and ddr3 ram. Feel free to play around with that a bit just keep in mind if you have them build it it will cost another 50 bucks.

A quad core processor(cpu) and a motherboard(preferably asus brand) that uses ddr3 ram(memory).
