Knowing everyone in the group from outside L4D allows you to give them crap about how badly they screwed up even if they log out or go play TF2.

This seems to produce a lot less 'horror movie cliche' moments. Like the guy who always sets off the car alarm, is unable to close doors when a attack is bound to happen any moment, or wanders around by himself trying to get more kills/items.
