It's almost a matter of respect; knowing what to do so you don't slow teammates down.

Yeah, I started playing in Single Player more so that when I tried campaigns with people, I'd be better off knowing where to go and whatnot, instead of stumbling around blindly.
Still, there's having fun in a match with others, and "must win at all costs."
