This thread probably needs glasses and a cane. I still don't love hlstatsx. Maybe it's more an indication of the play on 2fort (certainly not ALL the play) but a day doesn't go by when I don't see a number regular players altering their play (read: hiding/turtling mostly/changing classes) after losing a number of points. This behavior makes no sense outside of the context of hlstatsx because the scoreboard only counts kills/captures with no regard for the number of deaths.
So if we ignore the xhstats for a minute there are really only 3 objectives: 1) get kills/assists 2) pick-up/capture intelligence 3) win round/win match.
Personal objectives would be (probably in order) 1) scoreboard placement 2) wins and of course bragging rights go to those who's name is closest to the top and team that wins.
There are no penalties for death so players wishing to achieve better scoreboard placement need not take that into account.
Teams that place well without forward momentum lose.
With hlstatx of course a few things change. Points are cumulative and persist across rounds/matches (and servers). Deaths are penalized. Bragging rights go to players with the highest rank. Wins are not persistent.
Personal objectives would be 1) rank 2) points/session 3) scoreboard placement 4) wins.
Performance is calculated using a rather complex system in which points are rewarded or lost.
Placing well and winning are two independent goals. Points gained or lost during a session do not reflect a teams wins or losses or the quality of a players contribution towards achieving those wins or losses.
That doesn't mean I think it should go, I think too many players do like it. But the players I know and respect the most are the ones who will lose points to provide the team the support it needs. Rank is meaningless.
