Well let me toss in my 2 cents...I'll try to be as general as possible cause theres too many aspects to cover at once and I would wind up writing a book. Anyway, overall stats arent a bad thing. They can show a players progress through out the time hes played the game. As TB just finish mentioning you can also track your KD against particular players (which i personally feel isnt accurate in the sense of a true 1v1, due to games diff. classes)

There are certain players (very few) who care more about their stats then the objective. And i can only count them in 1 hand, so for this to be brought about as a big issue im actually a bit surprised. It does get annoying seeing "Jumpinthefire" type 'place' every 14 seconds but who cares? oh wait..some people do sorry all in all, its pretty harmless due to the small number of people.
