since this thread effectively has nothing to do with trying to convince me im a bad person (good luck!) i went ahead and made a thread in the flame bucket.

feel free to post your inadequate thought processes there.

ontopic:

Competition is fun. I cannot say that enough... Why would you play a game that by it's own nature is inherently competitive if you don't care how well you, your team, or your clan is doing? That's what single player games are for.

If you (and anyone else posting here to let me know they don't care about the their score or map win conditions) come on the team i'm currently playing, do not expect to be healed, ubered, kritz'd, communicated to, or acknowledged as a living being.

You are a nonfactor, and no clan or group intent on winning will want anything to do with you. You may as well be a bot.

I'll have to agree with Zeit here. He and I share the same views and opinions when it comes to competitive gaming and how that relates to fun.

I play to win, winning is fun. I don't like losing. I like being able to boast about my triumphs. These elements are what make a game fun for me.

Now Innovacious, I agree with you when you say that players who get angry when they lose tend to make the game less fun, but that's only if they let it affect them after the game is over and they dwell on it.

I for one don't get upset after the game is over and I shut it off for the night. Life goes on and a game doesn't carry enough weight to have such an impact on my life outside of web - its just a game.

A game isn't designed to leave you with a disgruntled, sour feeling when you're done. If feel this way after you're finished playing, thats when you know you're taking the game to seriously.

I didnt say competition isnt fun. Thats the whole point really, competition is fun. Even if you are losing, it can still be fun. Its as fun as people can make it. When im playing like shit i make the best out of what ive got. Lots of people just complain and try to place blame on someone/something.

People cant seem to just think "its just a game". They just start complaining about how it sucks and carry on doing exactly the same thing every time they spawn even though its not working and its making them angry.

I remember years ago when i used to play games online. If you lost it was all "oh well/good try/better luck next time" and everyones happy. Now its all "OMFG!/You all suck/demos are imba/omg why have we got 11 engineers on attack!" etc.

I think i really created this topic from the wrong angle. The lack of good sportsmanship and too much arrogance is the problem, because of it people are having less fun.

I never said competition is what isn't fun, but people who take the game too seriously are.

and just because you take everything I say too seriously doesn't mean that I am flaming you.

If I'm playing vanilla TF2 fun for me is basically playing to win. I don't get kicks out of just fucking around all that much on serious servers like sourceop.

There are plenty of other games/servers for that in my opinion.

my idea of fun is roleplaying being a cat while other people pet me and feed me kibls

That's a pretty weird fetish if you ask me.

I have had fun playing sourceop and probably the most fun i have had is not even game related. Some of the conversations during game play have been more entertaining then the actual game play. Win or loose i don't care. It is just a game and i am not pro and have no desire to be pro as then it becomes a job and i have one of those already. Oh and the Price is Right fail wave (for those who get it) even when you win thats awesome!!

Fun in TF2 to me is when i uber someone who didn't ask for it and the person takes out 2 sentry's and 6 other players and we both still make it out alive. Good runs like that are such a rush because you don't know the outcome.

Also enjoy when playing sniper and getting some amazing hs's as i'm not that good at sniping.
