How to be a good Medic Patient (and a few random Medic tips)
#41

Agua Wrote:I would add this: protect your fucking medic. Pay attention to their health bar on your screen. If you see them taking damage, turn your ass around and kill the bastard going after them. Experienced players know to take out the medics first. I find that if I run past someone being healed, many times they tend to go about their business leaving their precious medic completely vulnerable.

Also, medics, don't forget to heal engies every time your run past them. That little extra can mean the difference between losing all their buildings or just one.

Well put this is why I basically I dont play medic anymore.People spam MEDIC! instead of fighting while you get shot or dont watch your back.FUCK IT :?

Another one that's been cropping up for me this week:

Medic can try to keep everyone overhealed and give a fast response, or Medic can spycheck every single person before he heals them.

Everyone wants #1. That's cool. But it means a spy is going to be healed every now and then. Either deal with it or spy check better.

Feel free to mock the medic if they uber a spy though, or if they run around healing him for a long time (especially if he's planting sappers or something.)

----

Also, for the love of god, medics heal medics. Seriously. Pretty sure it's been said at this point, but nothing is more frustrating. I've also seen a lot of medics not calling for a medic when they're in the red. This, also, is silly (in most situations).

Finally, if you're on fire or something? Don't run to medic, then proceed to stand in a crowd of people or run jumping circles around medic while mashing 'e' unless you want better odds of dying in a blaze of glory. I'm looking at you, scout Tongue

Spycheck with your body, if you bump into someone, say that they are spy, at worst one idiot that isn't paying attention will get stabbed. At best it's another ubersaw hit.

This works fine in theory, and even has decent returns in practice. Fact of it is though, if you take the time to try to go through everyone before you heal them, a lot more people are going to die.

During a firefight, it's pretty common for the medibeam to hit 4 people or so over a 5 second span. Trying to run through everyone before you heal them cuts that down to (probably) 2/5.

For my money, it's better to overheal a spy once every (warning, random numbers ahead!) 3 minutes than to have 20-30 premature deaths in that same time span because I'm going to melee range before healing.

I meant heal everybody and run into people as you heal them. Most spies are very obvious anyways so it's pretty apparent whether or not you should heal them.

I primarily play medic, and I'm always sort of sitting there thinking stuff and trying to learn whatever I can, but this post hits most of my ideas on the head. Great to see them posted. Smile

Co-signed!!!

Three things to add, please don't gripe to the medics if you don't get ubered. I would love to uber all my teammates (I make sure that I buff as many as possible) but I also want our team to win which means the elite players (especially demos) will get priority.

I tend to uber demos/heavys/soldiers with my kritzkrieg. I tend to uber demos with standard uber to take out the sentry guns. If the sentry guns are down then I uber heavys and pyros for chaos and kills. If I see that sentry guns are taken down by a demo and a heavy has rushed in then I will split the uber to keep the heavy rolling with the kills.

Following all of those rules will make you a good medic but the best medics STAY ALIVE. Learn to escape the difficult situations and return to healing your teammates and they will respond with bolder attacks.

Ya that first post was amazing, just 2 more important points- Protect your medic and work with voice as a team, and_ WHENEVER you see another medic make it your number 1 priority to pump up their health and ensure they're not on fire. 2 medics working together should be focused on themselves first and foremost, and secondarily healing teammates who aren't retarded and taking 200 pts of damage in 5 seconds.
