FIXED: TF2 on OSX won't start after last update
#1

Edit: Steam just updated the files and now TF2 is back on Mac. YAY Big Grin

I can't start TF2 on my Mac after thursday night update. OSX 10.5.8.

First I tried to verify the local cache or what it's called, It hangs forever on 47%.
So I deleted all local files and reinstalled them.
But the result is the same, Nothing at all happends when I start TF2.

Anyone else having the same problem?

I'm on 10.6.6 and it loads fine. SPUF has a couple threads on it (e.g. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/sh...?t=1836303 )
I'd recommend spending the $25 and upgrading to Snow Leopard anyway.

Hm yeah, it might very well be related to the OS.
I have Snow Leopard on my Mac Book and there TF2 runs just fine still.
Yesterday I also deleted all Steam, every singe lil trace of it and reinstalled everything, and now I get the "Preparing to load TF2" alert but there it hangs.

Gonna try to update OS later, that must be it.

Thanx Dopp for reply and SPUF thread Smile

it does say what versions it runs on on the store page.

Yeah I know, but this is related to the latest Steam update.
Obviously they goofed something coz it affects most games on most machines. TF2 crashes on my PC too after about 30 mins of gameplay so it's not just on Mac.
Hopefully this has prio 1 on monday.

Just re-install it. Go to applications then right click on Steam > Show Packages > Delete the TF2 files. I did this when TF2 wouldn't start up after that non-hat update recently and I was quite furious. But overall, Macs <3.

Just a reminder that this isn't actually fixed and has gotten worse (reinstall isn't the fix). 10.5.8 thru 10.6.7 are affected, now with a strong chance you'll get a kernel panic if you're signed into your friends list (as the overlay seems to be the primary issue, and friend notifications exacerbate the issue). Nothing like a game crashing so hard it takes your system down with it.
On the bright side you never have to worry that you've been playing too long as the game takes care of it for you.

Yep you are very right about that, login problem are fixed but the random crashes are not.
Really hope they fix this soon.
