Also, even though I haven't seen him in forever, Xstacy was easily the best sniper I've ever played with/against in TF2.

xcstacy was absolutely godly at sniper and soldier. I would have to agree on that one.
It's hard to say who the best player is period, since some players excel only at certain classes.

there's no best player
There are three factors why.
First - Even if you are terrible at the game, having a medic on you instantly makes you 3x more effective.
Second - There are random chances at getting highly-damaging attacks for no reason at all.
Third - You have better chances at doing great if you are on defense. Goldrush-badwater-dustbowl.
obviously there are people who are more experienced than others, but there's no one who can consistently be the "best" without needing one of the three assets mentionned above.
