Accepting steam friend invites from people you don't know?
#1

So, I got this random add from some guy I don't know. His name is somebody else. Steam profile:

http://steamcommunity.com/id/zverina

Could something bad happen if I accept this random request? I have never met this person, not in real life nor in game, and he hasn't given me an explanation as to why he added me. I don't know if just adding him would lead to anything (such as being hacked, phished, given a virus, ETC).

So, the jist of it is, is there a threat to accepting these random friend invites?

1. The way you present the question says that you already know the answer, but want to start a thread about it for some reason.

2. If you dont know him and have never gamed with him, why would you want to add him anyway?

3. Your comment about him not providing you an explanation sounds like you just plugging that hole so someone doesnt ask that question in the thread. As you and I both know that if someone wont give you an explanation, you wouldnt consider adding them.

So, I am going to assume that you, like I, are bored at work with nothing to do....carry on.

I want to know about it in general... I won't add him no matter what, but I just want to know if adding someone like that could cause problems lol.

Once you accept his friend request, he can spam INVITES and text MASSAGES and even VOICE call you when you're playing videogames :o

Adding random people is pretty low-risk.

There's nothing malicious about a random friend request. I send friend requests to people I enjoy playing with on pubs so that in the future I can jump onto a server knowing that I'll have fun.

If you're not actively selling items on TF2TP, SourceOP, etc. and get a friend request out of the blue, they've probably used one of the methods available to search people's backpacks and found an item they want in yours. You can accept it if you like, but expect them to treat you like you don't know what you're doing and try to rip you off. Hey, at least see what they want. If they're a jerk, just un-friend them, no harm done.
